This news agency aims to report trans-European struggles against the measures of austerity that are destroying our future. These are the news for and from a precarious generation fighting against the present in order to achieve a better future for Europe and the whole Mediterranean. A future not based on austerity, scarcity, profit, war and crisis, but a future based on the distribution of the common wealth, happiness, social rights, conflict, and new social and political institutions. Paraphrasing one of the European students’ motto we could say: "If 'they' block our future, we will block Europe!" "Against thieves of our future, let's appropriate it!!"

Dear collaborators,

we would like to notice that we have been analyzing the situation and we consider that it has no sense to carry on with this blog. This news agency was created almost a year ago, when the several protests had just started. In this moment there are many different blogs and twitter accounts through whom to follow all this information. And the protests have spreaded elsewhere. For the moment we will leave the blog in stand by. We will maybe retake it in a time. Thank you! Enjoy the revolution!

Apreciadxs colaboradorxs,

Muchas gracias! Disfrutad de la revolución!

Call to Action! Common Knowledge Against Financial Capitalism: 24th-25th-26th of March, 2011

We, the student and precarious workers of Europe and all around the world met in Paris over the weekend of the 11th-13th of February, 2011 to discuss and organize a common network based on our common struggles. Our name is Knowledge Liberation Front, and we’re your crisis!

In fact, over the last few years our movement has assumed Europe as the space of conflicts against the corporatization of the university and precariousness. This meeting in Paris and the revolutionary movements across the Mediterranean allow us to take an important step towards a new Europe against austerity, starting from the revolts in Maghreb.

We are a generation who lives precariousness as a permanent condition: the university is no longer an elevator of upward social mobility but rather a factory of precariousness. Nor is the university a closed community: our struggles for a new welfare, against precarity and for the free circulation of knowledge and people don’t stop at its gates.

Our common network is based on our struggles against the Bologna Process and against the education cuts Europe is using as a response to the crisis.

Since the state and private interests collaborate in the corporatization process of the university, our struggles don’t have the aim of defending the status quo. Governments bail out banks and cut education. We want to make our own university – a university that lives in our experiences of autonomous education, alternative research and free schools. It is a free university, run by students, precarious workers and migrants, a university without borders.

We have created and improved our common claims: free access to the university against increasing fees and costs of education, new welfare and common rights against debt and the financialization of our lives, and for an education based on cooperation against competition and hierarchies.

So we, Knowledge Liberation Front, call for common and transnational days of action on the 24th-25th-26th of March, 2011: against banks, debt system and austerity measures, for free education and free circulation of people and knowledge.

Make actions, make autonomy, make our university:

make capitalism history!

Join the Knowledge Liberation Front:

Fighting and cooperating, this is our Common!

International Joint Statement

Around the world over the past decade students, pupils, teachers, parents and employees have been protesting against the increasing commercialization and privatization of public education, and fighting for free and emancipatory education.

Many of us use the “International Student Movement” as a self-managed platform initiated to exchange information, to network and to co-ordinate protests at both the international and the global levels. Since the ISM platform was initiated in November 2008 the “International Day of Action against the Commercialization of Education” (Nov.5th 2008), “Reclaim your Education – Global Week of Action” (April 20-29th 2009), “Education is NOT for $A£€ – Global Week of Action” (Nov.5th + 9-18th 2009), “Global Wave of Action for Education” (Oct./Nov. 2010) and “Spring of Resistance” (March – May 2011) were coordinated.
We strive for structures based on direct participation and non-hierarchical organization through collective discussion and action. Anyone who identifies with the struggle against the privatization of public education, and for free and emancipatory education can join and participate on as well as shape the platform!

THE KNOWLEDGE MOVEMENT by Franco Berardi

Since the beginning of the modern age autonomy has been a defining
feature of scientific progress and of the institution of university.
It is not only a formal juridical aspect, but an epistemological
prerequisite that prevents knowledge from beginning a purely
instrumental technique.

Late capitalism, in the phase of re-assertion of the already failed
neoliberal philosophy, also the Autonomy of University, and therefore
of the process of knowledge production, has been sacrificed to the
absolute domination of profit, growth and competition.

Only lately this operational and functionalist reduction of knowledge
has been imposed in Europe, as an effect of the Bologna Charter
(1999), and it is implying a standardization of the heuristic
procedures, of the evaluation criteria, and what matters most, of the
very goals of knowledge. The economic principle has been adopted as
the purpose, the methodology and the evaluation criterion of
knowledge.

The idea that knowledge has an established purpose (whatever it may
be) is wrong in itself, because the process of knowledge is constantly
questioning not only its methodology but also its purpose.

At the end of the decade the financial crisis has narrowed the margins
of investment for public education, so the process of subjugation of
knowledge to the economic design has married with a cut of the
available resources and with a privatization of educational
structures.

At the dawn of the second decade the end of Modernity is clearly
leaning towards the barbarity of functionalism and towards a
neoliberal dogmatism whose catastrophic effects can be clearly
detected in the daily life of the European society.
During 2010 this process has rapidly deployed in many European
countries, but at the same time all over Europe a movement of
precarious cognitive work has arisen, that so far has manifested
itself as defense of public school and University.

But the movement of students and researcher must become a movement of knowledge, i.e. a movement for the resurrection of the autonomy of knowledge in the conditions of post-modernity. This is the only way to save the legacy of modern civilization and to go beyond the neoliberal dogmatism and the only way to work out projects who will be able to go beyond the environmental and social catastrophe that the financial class has provoked.

The movement that has first emerged in the schools and universities of Europe in Fall 2010, will not be able to defend life condition of
cognitive workers without simultaneously transforming epistemological
protocols and the very contents of knowledge. For the first time in
the history of social struggle this is simultaneously a social
movement and an epistemological methodology. The cognitarian movement, subjectivation of the general intellect, is called to become movement of knowledge, if it wants to save the social existence of
intelligence.
